Retirement jottings

About me

I'm a retired instructional librarian who worked at the university level for over 30 years. My job was to teach tech-savvy but extremely naive students how to bypass internet pollution and find reliable information.

Now I'm fortunate enough and healthy enough to be able to devote my time to my three passions:

  •   First and foremost, there's Zumba. As a teenager I was overweight. I never played sports or  exercised. Back in the dark ages of the 1970's, there wasn't anything out there for girls nearly as fun and accessible as Zumba. Beto Perez changed all that. I also love Latinx music.
  •   Passion number two: my epistolary life, both on paper and online.  I write to good friends and to prison inmates who have become good friends.
  •  Passion number three: writing, esp. poetry. A blog comes in real handy for self-publishing. I  belong to writing groups where members share and encourage one another. I also write at Six Word Memoirs, where I express myself succinctly here and -- a bit earlier -- here.
  •  Overarching, all-encompassing passion: reading. Should probably have been listed first, but I tend not even to think of it as a distinct activity since it's so woven into the fiber of my life.
I  also do some volunteering assisting persons in recovery from mental and emotional illnesses. I'm enjoying it and hope those I'm working with are enjoying it too. Have to put a plug in here for NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. I'm also passionate about international human rights and manage the social media for Amnesty International USA Group 342.

OK, now that I've indulged my well earned privilege of spending long, lazy mornings in my pj's sipping coffee, it's time to get a shower.
